Niaouli Essential Oil

Niaouli Essential Oil

Niaouli is an evergreen closely related to the Tea Tree, Melaleuca alternifolia. Niaouli is native to the French Pacific Islands, New Caledonia, and Australia, where niaouli leaves were traditionally used to treat muscle aches and pains, respiratory infections, and as a poultice on cuts and wounds. Niaouli leaves have antiseptic properties and were used to purify water and as a disinfectant in French obstetric wards.

Today, niaouli oil is added to mouth sprays and toothpastes. In patients undergoing radiation therapy for cancer, the application of niaouli essential oil has also been shown to reduce burns and tissue damage caused by the radiation.
