Myrtle Essential Oil

Myrtle Essential Oil

Myrtle is a large, fragrant bush native to northern Africa. According to Culpeper, the leaves have drying and binding properties, and can be used to treat diarrhea and dysentery. Dioscorides also prescribed a potion of myrtle leaves macerated in wine to treat lung and bladder infections. Myrtle oil was one of several ingredients in Angel's Water, a 16th century skin care formulation.
