Caraway Seed Essential Oil

Caraway Seed Essential Oil

Prehistoric sites in southern Europe indicate that caraway seeds were part of the diet of pre-agricultural hunter-gatherers. The seeds were known to ancient India, and it is likely that the word caraway may derive from the Sanskrit name for the seeds, caravi.

Caraway seeds were also used in cooking and medicine in Greece and Rome, and in magic spells to protect children from harm in medieval Germany. Today, caraway seeds are a popular ingredient in rye bread, meats, pickles and aged cheeses. Kummel, a type of German brandy, is also flavored with caraway seeds.
