Cassia Essential Oil Profile


Botanical: Cinnamomum cassia | Origin: Vietnam | Method: Steam Distilled

Characteristics:


Cassia oil is a yellow to golden brown liquid of medium consistency, with a sweet-spicy, woodsy aroma that resembles cinnamon oil. Cassia blends well with oils of balsam, black pepper, caraway seed, chamomile, coriander, frankincense, ginger, geranium, nutmeg, and rosemary.

Principal Constituents:

  • cinnamic aldehyde

  • cinnamyl acetate

  • methyl eugenol

  • salicylaldehyde

  • methysalicylaldehyde

Safety:


Cassia oil is considered a potential dermal toxin, dermal sensitizer, and dermal and mucous membrane irritant due to the eugenol content. It is generally recommended that cassia oil not be used topically except in extreme dilution. Avoid cassia oil in pregnancy.
